Awww, brilliant.

My Steve (on the right) used to fetch folded up crisp packet wrappers and drop them right in my lap, if she was in the right mood, up till the point when she went missing last year (*sob*).

My mother has a cat that loves to play with scrunched up paper. He also loves to attack shoes, which he gets in trouble for. So when he thinks you're not looking he'll pick up the paper, drop it in the shoe, then attack the shoe. When interrupted he does his best innocent look as if it was purely accidental that the paper ended up there.

Oh, the adorableness! It hurts me so.

I love the part where, after he finishes mauling the shoe and pipe cleaner, he looks up at you as if he did *not* maul the shoe and the pipe cleaner and just what do you think you're looking at?

Often, he’d walk across my lap and drop a toy as he went by

Joey sometimes drops them by your feet. Or in an empty shoe or boot, with which he will then do battle.

(Joey also features in this older video, by the way.)

That’s a talkative cat!

You haven't heard the half of it. Joey is perfectly capable of going "Miaow! Miaow! Miaow! Miaow! Miaow!" for five straight minutes if he wants patting but can't find anybody to do it.

Miaowing back does encourage him, but whistling at him seems to interest him more. He will actually, eventually, come to you if you whistle, which is I think some kind of violation of Feline Union rules.

I had a cat who taught himself to fetch.

One day, I was reading on the bed. He was playing with an old balled-up aluminum foil Ding Dong wrapper next to me. I flicked it, Oh! What fun! Then he remembered that he wanted to be on the bed next to me. Flicked it again.

About the seventh or eighth time you could see the wheels turning in his head. Finally, he brought it back, set it down, and backed off to see what would happen. Flick. Oh! I get it!

Sometimes he'd play for 45 minutes. Often, he'd walk across my lap and drop a toy as he went by, to signal that he wanted to play. His favorite was a drinking straw.
