Well, you could always make a “Kipkay is a plagiarist” video yourself

No, I don't think I could; they expressly forbid on-site feuds between videomakers.

They say they want "helpful criticism", but "stop stealing stuff and making shit up, Mister Number One" probably doesn't qualify as "helpful".

Well, you could always make a "Kipkay is a plagiarist" video yourself, and put it on Metacafe (do they have the video response thing?). Even if you don't need the money.

Yes, it might look bad, of course. But your reputation can survive it. Venting on your blog won't stop the rest of the world sending the guy more money, going to the source might.

Not that I would, of course.

I must say I like the way I get sort-of-direct links to the videos, by the way. For someone whose only option is downloading (and then watching) Youtube videos, it's a welcome change from: having to load the page with HTTP redirection turned off, finding the identifying gobbledygook, and prepending the "video page" part of the url. (So that a piece of convenient userscript can work its magic..)

I'm concerned. Am I feeding the monster by watching the factoid video's linked in your blog? I'm enough of a geek to enjoy your website, but not enough of a popularist to enjoy watching other peoples home videos. The horror!

sorry, to clarify i mean that his innovation is his ability to garner attention, not that his videos are getting attention and ergo valuable.

you can damn the man but don't damn the system:

certainly this guy's content is shoddy. and you can damn the man for spewing hot air and making money, but i don't think you can damn the system. isn't the cornerstone of life this kind of nonsensical evolution? i bet there are some radically ridiculous species in the ancestry of homo sapiens. so maybe this guy sucks, but the next guy won't be worse, and hopefully he'll be as widely heard as well. this guys innovation is getting attention, and it's a real innovation i think. at least now this type of information is getting seen by people who are less clued in and/or not motivated to seek out the wandels and the hackaday.coms.

i think the next move will (could?) be someone taking hackaday.com or wandel or whoever, making compelling movies of their brainy content, posting to metacafe and splitting the profits with the originator. dan? can you hear me? :)
